In my opinion, the time where people are going to learn the most about themselves is when they are in school. They are going to have to work hard in order to take care of every project that comes about; this goes without saying. Confidence is the name of the game when it comes to creating anything, though, and I am sure that art colleges, across the board, can say the same. That being said, what are some of the ways in which these institutions can help to boost confidence in the best of ways?
Art colleges would not be the first locations on your mind as far as development is concerned. In fact, as far back as you can remember, you have most likely become involved in some form of art or another. If you spent time with coloring books or drew pictures that you are probably embarrassed about when your mother brings them up, then you were involved in art. Instances like these can work to build confidence, whether you would care to believe it or not.
In fact, a friend of mine went to school for graphic design, as he was someone who loved being able to use computers for everything. Whether it was for socialization or what have you, it was tough to get him away from his laptop, which was what partially led him to becoming interested in the field of graphic design. However, as he attended school, he was drawn to pastels and how they worked with his paper. Even though he was still heavily invested in graphic design, his focus shifted slightly.
While it's clear that there are several mediums to become lost in, I feel like the best thing that my friend got out of art school was a greater sense of networking. The truth of the matter was that, even though he was very talented with this field, he didn't exactly have the best social skills. However, he was able to meet with various people who shared similar interests to him. Apparently, that is all it really took for him to open up to all of them.
Can character become built over time, even after a particular degree is earned? I believe this to be true but I think that it is something that is started through education, since this is where you will become exposed to various topics over the course of time. Art colleges can prove to be very useful in this regard. You will go through many experiences, to put it simply, and it is because of said experiences that you will be helped that much more later on down the road.
