Maestros all over the world would not touch a violin unless it is carefully and meticulously crafted by a master who knows the finest details about this instrument. In the world of violin making, one person who would really stand out would be none other than violin maker Scott Cao.
In the seventies, he was an apprentice luthier in China when the reign of Mao Ze Dong was happening. After the heat of the cultural revolution, he moved to America in order to further continue his career in violin maker. Later on, he moved back to China to practice independently and then went back to California.
As stated above, the cultural revolution of the famous general Mao Ze Dong was going on during the middle of the seventies. It was during this time that mister Scott was living his life as a simple farmer who would make a living by picking up crops and selling them at the market. After some time, there was a famous violin making teacher who eventually offered him a means in which mister Cao could become an apprentice.
Because of this famous violin maker, he was able to find something that he really enjoyed and pursued this sort of career. Some time after he was offered apprenticeship, he attended the Guangzhou Institute of Professions where he further learned about string instruments and how to make them. In the year 1977, he got his diploma from this school and continued to pursue his luthier career.
Eventually during the mid eighties, China opened up itself which allowed mister Scott to travel to the United States of America. From there, he was able to study under a master luthier and studied how to repair other types of older instruments other than the violin. He studied under the best luthiers such as Louiz Bellini and Hans Weisshaar.
After learning the trade, he decided to go back to China and open up his own shop along with mister Hideo Kamimoto. His store sold some of the best quality but very affordable string instruments like violins, violas, cellos and many others. After some time, he established his own brand known as Scott Cao Violins.
Eventually, he decided to permanently go back to America and open up a shop there in Campbell, California. During this time, he actually entered many violin making contests wherein he won a lot of awards. In fact, there are so many violinists who use the violins of mister Cao.
So as one can see, mister Scott Cao is a great example of making a very famous name out of himself by doing something that he really loves. He has even made very good copies of the famous Stradivari designs of violins. Because he has is so good at paying attention to details, he can make some of the best sounding instruments ever.
