As I finish up my undergraduate I look back and realize that I have taken dozens of finals throughout my time at college and I have gained a better understanding of what it takes to do well during finals week. These principles apply to both traditional schooling or online classes.
Become a Better
Student The first and most obvious asset that your professor provides is additional help in the class. You can go to them to ask questions about concepts in class that you did not understand. As long as you are respectful of their office hours you can almost have a personal tutor. More importantly however is the advice that professors can give to help you become a better student for all your classes. Improved writing skills, understanding of mathematics, or presentation techniques are applicable beyond the specific class they teach. Talk to your professor to learn things that are not necessarily being taught inside the classroom.
Build Your Network
The first part of this principle requires you to look through the material you need to study and about how long it will take you to master the material. You gain this skill through experience but it is still useful to estimate as a freshman. Now that you know how long it will take schedule your finals and the amount of time you will spend for each class. Most likely you will not be able to spend as much time as you would like. This is the part where your priorities are important. Spend more time with the valuable classes rather than spreading your time equally among them.
6. There is demand for nursing in a variety of venues that include health clubs, nurse agencies, hospitals, or the military. You have your choice when it comes to what type of environment you want to work in.
Just because it is final week does not mean you start treating yourself poorly. Continue with your normal sleeping hours, eat healthily, and exercise daily. With better health you will feel better, more motivated, and more capable. If you need to stay up to study do so until you notice that your ability has decreased significantly. At that point head to bed and if you still have studying left to do get up early to do it rather than staying up too late. Avoid stimulants like energy drinks which will give you a boost with a bunch of caffeine but will result in you feeling drowsy and sick after the effects wear off.
A third benefit that your professors bring to the table is life experience. They have been in your shoes before. They have faced concerns about which classes to take, when to take them, how to find a job after college, which career to pursue, etc.
They have learned valuable lessons through their own successes and failures during college and beyond and if you are respectful in asking your professors will share this information with you. Learn how to succeed beyond the classroom. If you study in an online class remember that you still have access to your professor and can take advantage of many of the benefits listed above.
Make sure to reach out to them early as you won't have the same immediate access as a traditional class. Whether students are in a college in Idaho Falls or a University in London many fail to realize the many benefits that their professors offer outside of the classroom. Seek out your professors during their office hours to become a better student, to build a professional and valuable network, and to seek advice concerning some of the life decisions you will soon be making.
